The Bay | Limited Edition Modernist Fine Art Print
The Story Behind the Artwork
This original fine art print is a vivid, stylised interpretation of a classic coastal scene around Melbourne's Port Phillip Bay. The composition captures the timeless rhythm of local life, featuring elegant yachts bobbing on the water, framed by the iconic silhouettes of coastal date palms and towering Norfolk pines.
As a Melbourne-based illustrator and printmaker, I am continuously sketching the landmarks, hidden corners, and unique environments that give Victoria its character. "The Bay" is a celebration of the intersection between our natural coastlines and local lifestyle, capturing the crisp, nostalgic air of a sunny day by the bay.
The Artistic Vision & Influences
Rather than attempting a literal, photographic depiction, this piece plays with a bold balance of colour, pattern, texture, and form to elicit a specific inner emotion. My signature creative style bridges the gap between contemporary fine art and graphic, commercial pop art.
This artwork is heavily informed by early 20th-century modernism and the expressive design philosophies of Mid-Century Modernism. My work draws deep artistic inspiration from global masters Joan Miró and Paul Klee, alongside iconic Australian painters Charles Blackman, Sidney Nolan, and the graphic irreverence of Reg Mombassa.
