The Story Behind the Artwork
This piece captures the wind-swept, sculptural beauty of the Australian native Tea Tree (Leptospermum), a definitive feature of the rugged southern coastlines. Growing up near or exploring the coastal fringe of Victoria, one cannot help but be captivated by the twisted, dancing forms of these resilient trees as they bend to the coastal winds. This painting is an exploration of that organic movement, translated through a rich balance of colour, form, and texture.
While much of my studio practice centres on the bold, graphic lines of traditional linocut printmaking, this fine art landscape painting allows me to explore a softer, more fluid approach to the Australian wilderness. It leans into the atmosphere, shifting light, and deep earthy tones that define the local coastal environment.
