The Challenge: Elevating Retail Staples with a Handcrafted Edge

I’ve been working closely with the French Connection Australia head office since 2018. Over the course of our long-term partnership, the brand evolved and rebranded to become Unison, now operating as a fully independent Australian label. Throughout these seasonal campaigns, I’ve worked directly with their internal design team to develop a diverse series of custom illustrations and textile graphics, primarily focusing on their menswear lines with occasional capsule additions for their womenswear range.

The main creative challenge across these collections was to move well beyond standard casual basics. We wanted to introduce a fresh, hand-illustrated aesthetic that felt premium yet accessible for the local retail market. Every graphic had to align seamlessly with the label's polished brand standards while providing a distinct, tactile, and handcrafted point of difference that stood out on the shop floor.

The Solution: Integrated Commercial Illustration & Long-Term Continuity

To build out the seasonal ranges, I delivered a comprehensive suite of apparel graphics designed to work across a variety of fabrics and fits. This included everything from minimal, clean chest hits to intricate, large-scale textile prints. By mixing traditional pencil and ink techniques with digital refinement, I provided the in-house team with a versatile library of design assets that scaled smoothly from essential everyday tees to structured button-down shirts.

Operating as an agile, off-site art department allowed for a fast, collaborative iteration process with their internal designers. I made sure every single asset was delivered completely production-ready and technically optimised for high-volume commercial screen printing and textile manufacturing. This ongoing partnership really highlights my ability to plug straight into a major fashion label's workflow, maintaining visual continuity and delivering beautiful, retail-ready results season after season.
