Wattlebird with a Bottle Brush Tree | Limited Edition Linocut Print

$190.00

The Artwork

This original linocut print features the bold Wattlebird amidst the iconic, architectural blooms of a Bottlebrush tree (Callistemon).

As a Melbourne-based artist, I am constantly inspired by the sights and sounds of the bush. In this piece, I focused on the "methodical chaos" of the bottlebrush stamen, using fine, hand-carved lines to contrast with the strong, graphic silhouette of the Wattlebird. The result is a striking work of Australian native art that captures the raw, textured energy of our local flora and fauna.

The Studio & Process

Every print in my studio is the result of a slow, tactile journey. Before the first drop of ink touches the paper, I spend many hours sketching from life and meticulously hand-carving the linoleum block.

My work is deeply rooted in the history of relief printing. I draw inspiration from the bold, modernist lines of Australian legends Margaret Preston and Barbara Hanrahan, as well as the 20th-century Japanese Sōsaku-hanga movement, particularly the intricate work of Un'ichi Hiratsuka. Because each piece is hand-pulled, you are receiving a unique impression with its own distinct character.
