The Challenge: Whimsical Narrative for Premium Pet Apparel
Working alongside Sara and Jane at Coco & Pud, the objective was to develop a standout visual theme for their premium winter collection. The creative challenge was to capture a genuinely whimsical narrative—dogs ice-skating in cosy winter knitwear—while keeping a sharp eye on the commercial and technical requirements.
The artwork couldn't just look great as a standalone painting; it had to be engineered to convert seamlessly into a technical repeat pattern. This print needed to scale flawlessly across a wide range of luxury products, from plush blankets down to narrow, durable items like harnesses and collars. On top of that, the aesthetic had to feel high-end, hand-painted, and feature a diverse mix of popular breeds to truly connect with the premium pet market.
The Solution: A Hand-Painted Watercolour Visual System
To bring the collection to life, I created a series of bespoke watercolour illustrations featuring French Bulldogs, Westies, Dachshunds, and Cavoodles. Once the character designs were locked in, I built out the seamless repeat print, optimising the layout specifically for textile application.
Taking this holistic design approach meant Coco & Pud could apply a single, unified visual identity across their entire manufacturing run, including double-sided printed polyester webbing and luxury plush blankets. Operating as an off-site art department, I provided a complete turnkey solution—handling everything from those initial watercolour sketches on paper right through to delivering the final technical production files required by the textile manufacturers.
