Outdoor Apparel Illustration & Linocut Branding — Toiyabe (California, USA)
The Challenge: Capturing the Spirit of the Sierra Nevada
Toiyabe, a California-based outdoor-wear company, required a series of iconic landscape illustrations for its premium T-shirt line. The objective was to "Wear the Wilderness"—translating the rugged majesty of landmarks like Mount Tamalpais, Yosemite’s Half Dome, and Lake Tahoe into a cohesive visual language. The challenge was to create a "Boutique Aesthetic" that resonated with the adventurous spirit of the hiking and skiing communities while ensuring the designs were technically optimised for high-quality screen printing on apparel.
The Solution: A Bespoke Linocut Visual Narrative
I developed a series of custom linocut illustrations that served as the artistic heartbeat of the Toiyabe collection. By utilising a handcrafted, "Analogue Soul" approach, I transformed majestic granite formations and serene alpine vistas into bold, graphic compositions. My role as an off-site art department included initial landmark research, character-style landscape drafting, and final technical prep for textile application. The result is a collection of "wearable art" that successfully merged outdoor adventure with high-level illustration, contributing to a unified brand identity that celebrates the intersection of art and exploration.
